The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) came into effect on January 1, 2020. This landmark piece of legislation establishes enhanced consumer protection and privacy rights for those living in California. It follows the much more rigorous General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) that went into effect in the EU in May 2018.

What does it mean for your staffing business?

Well if you are directly affected by either legislation by now you have sought legal counsel and implemented any necessary changes.

If you are not, then increasing regulation around consumer privacy is coming your way in some shape or form and your motto should be “be prepared”.

One of the benefits of the 1Staff Front Office being powered by Microsoft Dynamics 365, Microsoft’s intelligent CRM and ERP platforms used by millions around the world, is it can leverage Microsoft’s framework and tools for GDPR.

It also means there are significant resources you can access around these frameworks and tools.

For Microsoft, supporting Consumer Privacy, is a demonstrable reality. Right now, it supports businesses impacted by legislation and it does so at scale, across geographies, across different verticals. All this can be borrowed and applied to the Staffing sector in the US.

Here are a few that any Microsoft Dynamics 365 user could leverage today;

Relevance Search.

Key to addressing a request is being able to identify, access, rectify, delete, and export personal data. Relevance Search is a great feature that helps you perform a global search in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Online, similar to Google search. The search can be performed on multiple entities without building any search queries. For example, Contact record, Address, Assignments, Questionnaire response, skills, etc , any entity. The search data is sorted by relevance in a single list upon its return. It can also search for text in documents attached to a Note, Email or an Appointment in Dynamics 365. It also shows you the owner of the artifact and the origination and modified dates.

The search data can further be filtered down by using the facets and the filters as shown in the screenshot below.

The Dynamics Data Subject Request (DSR) portal.

The DSR Portal enables you to fulfill consumer privacy requests. Data Subject Request capability is generally available today through the Dynamics Service Trust Portal. These capabilities allow a staffing business to respond to requests to access, rectify, delete, and export personal data in the cloud.

Compliance Manager.

Compliance Manager, a workflow-based risk assessment tool in the Microsoft Service Trust Portal, enables you to track, assign, and verify your organization’s regulatory compliance activities related to Microsoft Professional Services and Microsoft cloud services, such as Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Dynamics 365, and Microsoft Azure. It provides a dashboard that provides a summary of your data protection and compliance stature and recommendations to improve data protection and compliance. The Customer Actions provided in Compliance Manager are recommendations; it is up to each organization to evaluate the effectiveness of these recommendations in their respective regulatory environment prior to implementation.

While none of these tools provide a guarantee of compliance, that is up to the Staffing business, they support your ability to do so, and they exist now. In contrast many CRM/ATS solutions on the market have just a statement of intent and are struggling with how it should support your compliance strategy. Because they don’t have Microsoft D365 as their foundation. Talk to us about a Staffing Platform that does.
