Interview with Katherine Leisinger, Sr. Director, Information Technology.
Background:
What a pleasure it is speaking with Katherine Leisinger, Sr. Director, Information Technology at Innovative Employee Solutions (IES). Katherine brings a wealth of knowledge with a rich background in the staffing industry. Her role as the IT Director is to oversee and manage internal staff and the primary point of contact with external vendors like Professional Advantage, and the strategic implementation of the 1Staff 365 Front Office staffing solution to ensure the seamless functioning of IES's workforce solutions.
Business Overview:
Describing IES as more than just a temporary staffing firm, Katherine emphasizes that “IES, although technically categorized as a temp staffing firm, we are an employer record service and so we do no recruiting on behalf of our clients. Everyone that we employ is directly sourced by our clients. We are in all states. We also work internationally, and we started with a focus primarily on Directly employed US workers and have expanded to have a considerable offering in the independent contractor space and are expanding internationally and have clients really across the globe.”
The Solution: 1Staff Front Office.
Initially equipped with the Professional Advantage Collections Management module for Microsoft Dynamics GP, IES utilized Microsoft Dynamics CRM (now D365) and Microsoft Dynamics GP as their underlying technology. Katherine highlights the decision to implement 1Staff, stating “The underlying technology was great. We're really happy with GP and had a lot of reporting and expertise in that area. We're very happy with CRM and so when as we went out to the market to look the fact that Professional Advantage had a different solution that was built on top of our existing technology was appealing because we had quite a bit of expertise in-house already in that area. Then we knew about the flexibility in terms of reporting customization, particularly in the CRM, we had been able to build on a lot of custom solutions that we knew we'd be able to bring over with us, and so that was appealing.”
Operational Streamlining:
Five years later, IES upgrades to 1Staff 365 Front Office powered by D365, and Katherine notes, “That's it’s going really well. Probably the biggest enhancement, is perhaps less the technology and more are comfort with using some of the additional tools. I'd say that probably the two most valuable, the most valuable by far, has been Microsoft Power Automate. That has been a real game changer for us, and Microsoft Power Apps has also been really valuable, and Power BI has been helpful. Power Automate has been absolutely amazing.”
Integration and Efficiency:
Katherine emphasizes the ease of integrating with third-party tools like DocuSign and AccuTrace using D365, stating, “Power Automate and the entire Power Platform make it significantly easier to integrate with vendors.”
Efficient Onboarding:
Utilizing 1Staff’s staffing compliance and electronic onboarding software, IES achieves efficient onboarding, as exemplified by a high-volume project for a U.S. government subcontractor. Katherine explains, “It was a subcontractor, for the US government, but very high volume where we were having to onboard hundreds of people at a time. We were able to import a spreadsheet, import a Job Order, and then kick off compliance automatically from the Job Order. From the time that we ran the imports, that was a very brief period of time, before onboarding actually would kick off without manual intervention during night. It used to be considered a busy week for us to onboard 30 or 40 people in a week. Now we are at a point where we've been able to onboard several 100 people in a single day.”

Looking Ahead:
When looking towards the future Katherine says,
“It's a very forward-growing solution, particularly in the Cloud. What we're seeing is just extraordinary advances in technology, and we see that with this 1Staff Front Office tool. We'll be able to keep pace with the emerging technologies without having to constantly replace or update software, so once you're in D365, you've got Microsoft so as artificial intelligence or chatbots or Teams integrations. All the things that Microsoft is deploying for the modern office and modern collaboration tools.
It's nice to have our System integrated with that and advancing along with it. I think if someone was considering looking at 1Staff Front office, that would be an important consideration because often you're dependent upon your vendor, you know your VAR to come up with every innovation and in this case, Professional Advantage is leveraging Microsoft innovation, so you don't have to reinvent the wheel. It allows us to innovate much more rapidly than we would with other systems.”
