Inspiring Lifelong Learning Through Volunteer Time Off

As part of his Volunteer Time Off, William had the joy of teaching a hands-on science class at a local nursing home - complete with real experiments, demonstrations, and plenty of laughter.

The amazing staff went all out to make the session special, serving themed snacks like “fruit-fusion” juice in beakers and cupcakes topped with tiny microscopes. Their creativity set the perfect tone for a day of discovery.

It was William’s first time leading a class like this, and he admitted he was a little nervous going in. But stepping into something new with courage paid off. The residents were warm, curious, and full of great questions.

One resident told him,

“I haven’t thought about atoms and reactions since school - this brought back so many memories!”

By the end of the session, everyone was smiling, comparing notes, and already asking when they could do it again. William hopes to make this a regular series - and next time, by popular request, they’ll be exploring the wonders of outer space, from the history of telescopes to the latest cosmic discoveries.

The nursing home staff joined in the fun with creative, science-themed snacks - jelly cups in beakers and cupcakes with microscopes.

As one participant put it perfectly,

“You didn’t just teach us science today - you reminded us how fun it is to keep learning.”
